 Great job, kids!

Thanks, Jasmine......

Introducing the fuzziest and newest member of Mrs. B's family...... Meet Charly..... she's still pretty young.... and she's pretty excited about puppy life!  Thanks for the cute pic, Jasmine!  Taking this pic was a little tricky.....(she tried to eat the picture at least 3 times......) haha!  Charly says hi, Kids!

Great Math Talk Today!!!!

What an awesome day today in Math Class!!!  Check out this Math Talk!  It was done with "Quick Images".  These are images of dot arrangements where students need to determine the number of "dots" they see in a picture - with efficiency and math thinking.  I was very impressed with their work today....Here's a picture of their thinking based on two of these "images".  Have them explain these to you!

Math Talks in the morning.....

Every morning our class does a MATH TALK as a start to our math block.  It wakes us our minds, keeps our math brains flexible, and helps us build fluency with numbers and quantities.  I've posted here some pics of 3 problems we used on Friday's MATH TALK.  The work below the problems is what students told me were their methods of finding solutions.  Kids listen to and work to understand each others' procedures to build and enrich their math thinking.  So far, our MATH TALKS are going GREAT! Thanks, Kids for all of your energy during these activities!

Hands-on (and dirty!) Science in our Class!!!

On Friday, our class had the opportunity to see up close the different parts of plants.  After sharing their posters, kids took apart some flowers (thanks to Paquette's for their donations towards this activity)!  They looked for the structures in the plants that helped them to survive.  Great work, kids!

WE LIT A BULB TODAY! WOO HOO!

Today we lit a light bulb in the RES sign in the lobby!  It was fun to celebrate our positive actions and how hard we are working at building our classroom community!  We earned links for some targeted skills and habits this time around - transitions, whole body listening, respecting others, and respecting the environment.  I'm proud of the children and look forward to filling another jar before the end of the week!  We can do it!

What do Living Things Need to SURVIVE???

Last week we began our first unit of Science!  Our topic is "Structure and Function - Survival".  We began with a little "field trip" out to the field outside the school and did a little observation of a mini ecosystem.....Here are some pics from our activity!

What are all of the living things inside the hoop?  Draw a scientific sketch of what you see and label it......

Today we found out that there are FIVE big things ALL living things need....be sure to ask us about it!
